On October 1, 2026, the Embassy of Mozambique in Sweden received a courtesy visit from Dr. Henric Thörnberg, senior adviser to the Standard Bank Group and an economist with extensive experience financing projects in Africa, particularly in the energy, infrastructure, mining, ports, and telecommunications sectors.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on investment prospects in Mozambique and on opportunities for cooperation with Nordic financial institutions. Discussions also explored ways to facilitate the participation of Swedish and other Nordic companies in the Mozambican market through the supply of equipment, technology and services, as well as financing solutions tailored to project needs.
In the energy sector, particular attention was given to the ongoing modernization and rehabilitation programs at Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa, aimed at extending the service life of equipment and strengthening operational capacity and efficiency, thereby contributing to clean and reliable power generation in line with international standards.
In this context, opportunities to engage with Nordic investment funds and other financial institutions were explored. The Embassy reiterated its readiness to serve as an institutional bridge between potential Swedish and Nordic partners and the relevant authorities in Mozambique, facilitating the dialogue and contacts needed to identify opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.
The visit is part of the Embassy’s mission to promote economic diplomacy and raise awareness of investment opportunities in Mozambique, supporting the establishment of new partnerships and the strengthening of economic and trade relations with Sweden and the other Nordic countries.
