Hodi Maputo Afro Swing Kids brings Mozambican culture to Stockholm

Hodi Maputo Afro Swing Kids, the artistic training programme of the Hodi Maputo Afro Swing Cultural Association, performed in Stockholm on 17 July 2026, under the theme “Ntsutsu Wale Kaya”, presenting the richness and diversity of Mozambique’s cultural heritage.

The young performers combined traditional music, folk dance and contemporary expression, highlighting a new generation of artists and the association’s commitment to preserving, valuing and passing on national cultural traditions.

Under the coordination of the programme’s founder, artist Manuel Manhiça, and with artists Fernando Sitoe and Vasco António, the performance featured traditional Mozambican instruments and a cultural journey across the country, from the Rovuma to Maputo.

Dancers Brígida Tomás, Lucinda Fidélio and Zélia Muchanga performed Nikhetxe, Nyau, Xigubo and Marrabenta, alongside contemporary choreography demonstrating the creativity, discipline and energy of Mozambique’s youth.

The performance formed part of an artistic training and cultural exchange programme held from 4 to 18 July 2026, organised by Herräng Dance Camp, an internationally recognised centre for Lindy Hop dance training and promotion.

The Embassy congratulates the association on its youth group’s performance and its contribution to sharing Mozambican cultural identity abroad. It recognises these young artists as ambassadors of Mozambican culture and friendship between Mozambique and Sweden.
