On 23 June 2026, H.E. Mr Francisco Neto António Novela, Ambassador of the Republic of Mozambique to the Kingdom of Sweden, was received on a courtesy visit by H.E. Ms Maria Malmer Stenergard, Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, as part of the customary reception of newly accredited Heads of Mission.
The Ambassador conveyed greetings from H.E. Ms Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, Mozambique’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening the historic friendship and cooperation between Mozambique and Sweden.
He highlighted bilateral cooperation and Swedish investment in Mozambique, including in the energy sector, as priorities. He also welcomed the first session of political consultations between the two countries, recently held in Maputo, which strengthened cooperation in energy, higher education, the empowerment of women and girls, and humanitarian assistance.
Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard welcomed the Ambassador and reiterated the Swedish Government’s readiness to deepen cooperation, with particular emphasis on trade, investment and economic partnerships. She expressed interest in learning about new investment opportunities identified by Mozambique, especially in energy.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the historic partnership between the Republic of Mozambique and the Kingdom of Sweden.
